The Brosts are a family dedicated to the Hereford industry and most importantly, they are a family that takes pride in working together!
Today, Brost Land & Cattle Co. run approximately 200 Purebred Horned and Polled Herefords and about 200 mostly straight bred Hereford commercial females on 11,000 acres of dryland including some green feed and 1,000 acres of hay. “Our major focus is on our commercial ranch market,” Blaine explains. “However, we show purebreds to keep our name out there and keep abreast of the industry. We still feel that both the Horned and Polled genetics have something important to offer. It’s always nice to win Championship banners, but we are probably most renowned for our ability to sell good commercial bulls. In this area of the province, bulls have to be able to travel long distances and be sound on their feet.”
For the past six years, the Brosts have been hosting their sales on the farm. They host a production sale each third Tuesday in November, and 2020 will mark the 52nd annual event. Starting with Alfred Brost & Sons in 1963, they have been consigning bulls to the Medicine Hat Bull Sale for 49 years; making them the longest running consignors. For several years running, the Brosts have achieved Grand or Reserve Grand Champion honors with their bulls at the sale. Also, in 2011 the Brost Land & Cattle Co. fall production sale was one of the top sales in Canada. In March 2012 at the Medicine Hat Bull Show, they had the Grand Champion Bull, Best Pair of Bulls, and the Best Pen of Three Bulls, as well as being nominated by their peers as having the Best String of Bulls.
On behalf of the Brost and Zoeteman families, we welcome you to the 52nd Annual Sale. As always we are committed to raising cattle for the commercial industry. Please click here for more information.
